A statement.

I just need to make a statement here.

A single point.

It is offensive, and hurtfull, and anyone who knows me at all, will understand why I made it, and that it was difficult for me to say it in a public place where it can be referenced by anyone for any reason.

Fags are the Niggers of the 21'st Century

Now who will be Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Junior for homosexuals?
It better be someone smart, personable, and the way things look now, heterosexual.

Actually the descrimination against people because of race or disability (or some religious clothing that always identifies them) is much different. Blacks or asians or midgets or heavy people can't blend in with the rest of the crowd.

Before Rosa Parks got on the bus she was already identified as someone to go to the back of the bus. There is no concept of a black "coming out of the closet".

This is not to say that other groups cannot be singled out. The Nazi's killed Jews, Gypsies, disabled people, Jehovah's Witnesses, gays, Communists, ...

There are different types of discrimination and different characteristics of the groups discriminated. The black community is a large group of people who were discriminated against as soon as they were born, resulting in reduced economic and educational opportunity. The gay community is a smaller group that is not discriminated until later in life. Having a higher average level of income and education means that that groups strengths lie not in having a Martin Luther King Jr type figure but in having the stronger, disbursed, grass roots leadership.
